About this blog

Artist Studio
Welcome to the de Young’s Artist Studio blog. This blog is intended to purely document the voice of each artist-in-residence as they experience a month of interacting and art-making in the Kimball Education Gallery. The Artist Studio program is a one-month residency that takes place in the Kimball Education Gallery Wednesdays through Sundays from 1pm to 5pm and during the Friday Night Cultural Encounters season, Fridays until 8:45pm. The artist is invited to interact with the public by sharing the creative process and providing an opportunity for visitors of all ages to take part in a hands-on art-making component. He or she exhibits completed works of art and works in progress in the gallery. The Kimball Education Gallery studio is a place for the artist to engage actively with the public while working. It is not an environment that provides quiet time in the studio. This residency is designed to be interactive. Proposal submissions that incorporate the de Young’s collection, respond to the park setting, or have a site-specific intention are desirable. The space provides a venue for the artist to gain high exposure to museum visitors.
